HASTINGS — Conor Moran fired a one-hit shutout and Brayden Elder collected three hits as the Omaha Creighton Prep Bones Post 1 defeated Kearney Pinnacle Bank Post 52, 8-0, in five innings Saturday morning in Game 1 of the Nebraska American Legion Class A Juniors State Tournament at Duncan Field.

After leaving two runners in scoring position in the first inning, Omaha took advantage of two Kearney errors to score twice in the second. George Bartholomew reached on an error and eventually scored on another defensive miscue. Graham Wilwerding, who walked, later scored on Landon Richter’s groundout to give the Bones a 2-0 lead.

Kearney starter Sawyer Bruner kept his team within reach through four innings, striking out seven. Omaha then broke the game open by sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring six runs in the fifth.

Elder opened the fifth with a single and later capped the rally with a two-run single—his second hit of the inning—to extend Omaha’s lead to 8-0. Finn Donohue added his second hit of the game, Ben Piernicky delivered a sacrifice fly, and Finn Nauenburg and Owen Fogarty also scored during the rally.

Moran retired the first 12 Kearney batters before Jacob Schmidt recorded Kearney’s lone hit with a leadoff single in the fifth. Moran then induced a groundout before Piernicky caught a fly ball in right field and threw out the runner attempting to score to complete a game-ending double play.

Moran faced the minimum 15 batters, did not issue a walk and struck out one. Omaha finished with seven hits and played error-free defense, while Kearney recorded one hit and committed two errors.
