Jets Answer Early Deficit, Pull Away From Papillion

HASTINGS — Lincoln East Duncan Aviation Jets Post 500 scored six unanswered runs over the second and third innings to defeat Papillion Post 32, 8-3, Saturday in Game 2 of the Nebraska American Legion Class A Juniors State Tournament at Duncan Field.
Lincoln grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Tyson Beach delivered a two-run single. Papillion responded with three runs in the second, taking a 3-2 lead after Eli Darling was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Braden Waddell followed with a two-run single.
The Jets immediately reclaimed the lead in the bottom half. Nico Garcia scored on an RBI single by Jace Wentworth before Shea Clanton came home on Landon Topolski’s groundout, giving Lincoln a 4-3 advantage.
Lincoln broke the game open with four runs in the third. Shea Clanton delivered an RBI single, Jake Gerdts scored on a passed ball and Braxton Hemry capped the inning with a two-run double that brought home Clanton and Topolski, extending the lead to 8-3.
Cooper Little earned the win after allowing three runs on three hits while striking out seven over 4⅓ innings. Tyson Beach added four strikeouts in 1⅔ scoreless innings, and Thad Keebler worked a scoreless seventh as Lincoln’s pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts.
Topolski finished 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Clanton went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs, while Beach and Hemry each drove in two. Braden Ostlund led Papillion by going 2-for-3, and Waddell finished with two RBIs.
Lincoln finished with eight runs on six hits and committed one error. Papillion scored three runs on four hits and committed two errors.
