Lincoln East Walks Off Bennington, Advances to State Championship

HASTINGS — Lincoln East Duncan Aviation Jets Post 500 scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off Bennington Post 266, 2-1, Wednesday in Game 14 of the Nebraska American Legion Class A Juniors State Tournament at Duncan Field. The victory sends Lincoln East into the state championship game against Lincoln Southwest Cornhusker Heating & Air Post 500.
Bennington took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Kaleb Tysor opened the inning with a double, moved to third on Greg Kriegler’s sacrifice bunt and scored when Connor Crouch lined an RBI single to center.
Rylan Yakopec protected the one-run advantage through six innings. Lincoln East placed two runners in scoring position with one out in the fifth, but Yakopec struck out Shea Clanton and induced a groundout to escape the threat.
Bennington had an opportunity to add to its lead in the sixth. Tysor was hit by a pitch, stole second and reached third, but Cooper Little picked him off to end the inning.
Nico Garcia started Lincoln East’s seventh-inning rally with a single and moved to second on Treu Larsen’s sacrifice bunt. Jake Gerdts walked before Clanton singled home Garcia with the tying run. Jace Wentworth followed with another single to load the bases, and Gerdts scored the winning run when Landon Topolski’s ground ball was misplayed.
Little earned the victory with a complete-game performance, allowing one run on two hits over seven innings. He walked three and struck out seven. Yakopec took the loss despite holding Lincoln East scoreless through six innings, allowing two runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts in 6⅓ innings.
Tysor doubled and scored Bennington’s run, while Crouch supplied its RBI. Henrik Kruce collected two hits for Lincoln East, including a double. Garcia scored the tying run, and Clanton delivered the tying single in the seventh.
Lincoln East finished with two runs, five hits and two errors. Bennington recorded one run, two hits and one error.
