Lincoln East Holds Off Lincoln Southwest to Win State Championship

HASTINGS — Cooper Morrow pitched six strong innings and Tyson Beach collected three hits before closing out the game on the mound as Lincoln East Duncan Aviation Jets Post 500 defeated Lincoln Southwest Cornhusker Heating & Air Post 500, 3-1, Wednesday night in Game 15 to win the Nebraska American Legion Class A Juniors State Tournament at Duncan Field.
Lincoln East struck first in the second inning. Beach led off with a single, moved to second on Henrik Kruce’s sacrifice bunt and scored when Treu Larsen lined an RBI single to right field.
Lincoln Southwest answered in the bottom half. Hudson Kelley and Cole Sebek opened the rally with consecutive singles before Ryker Tomlinson singled home Kelley to tie the game at 1-1.
Morrow kept Lincoln Southwest scoreless over the next four innings, working around five walks and allowing only three hits through six. Lincoln East finally broke the tie with two runs in the top of the sixth.
Beach, Kruce and Nico Garcia opened the sixth with three consecutive singles to load the bases. Larsen was hit by a pitch to force home pinch runner Collin Kreikemeier with the go-ahead run, and Shea Clanton drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Kruce and extended the lead to 3-1.
Lincoln Southwest put two runners aboard in the bottom of the sixth, but Morrow induced a groundout to preserve the two-run advantage. Beach took over in the seventh and worked around Bryson Crump’s one-out single, striking out Drew Townsend before getting Chase Fusco to ground out for the final out.
Morrow earned the victory after allowing one run on three hits over six innings. He walked five and struck out four. Beach recorded the save with one scoreless inning, allowing one hit and striking out one. Jared Ehlers took the loss for Lincoln Southwest.
Beach led Lincoln East by going 3-for-4, while Clanton finished 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Larsen drove in two runs, and Kruce and Garcia contributed singles during the decisive sixth-inning rally. Kelley went 1-for-2 with a walk and scored Lincoln Southwest’s run, while Tomlinson singled, walked and drove in a run.
Lincoln East finished with three runs, nine hits and no errors. Lincoln Southwest recorded one run, four hits and played error-free defense. The Jets rebounded from an earlier tournament loss with four consecutive elimination-game victories to capture the 2026 Nebraska Class A Juniors state championship.
