HASTINGS — Chase Dean collected two hits, including a two-run double, and Connor Crouch pitched five innings as Bennington Post 266 defeated Omaha Creighton Prep Bones Post 1, 14-6, in seven innings Tuesday afternoon in Game 12 of the Nebraska American Legion Class A Juniors State Tournament at Duncan Field.

Bennington opened the game with three consecutive singles and scored three times in the first. Kaleb Tysor was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Greg Kriegler followed with a sacrifice fly, and Crouch added an RBI groundout.

Omaha answered in the second when Connor Haskell singled and scored on Finn Nauenburg’s RBI single. Tysor scored on Kriegler’s groundout in the third to extend Bennington’s lead to 4-1.

Bennington broke the game open by sending 13 batters to the plate and scoring eight runs in the fourth. Quinn Roberts delivered an RBI single before Dean drove home Derek King and Tyler Meschede with the game’s only extra-base hit. Tysor added an RBI single, while passed balls, wild pitches and Omaha errors helped Bennington build a 12-1 advantage.

The Bones responded with five runs in the fifth. Owen Fogarty hit an RBI single, Nauenburg drew a bases-loaded walk and Tristan Grove brought home another run with a groundout. Graham Wilwerding’s second hit of the game completed the rally and cut the deficit to 12-6.

Bennington added one run in each of the final two innings. Courtesy runner Kody Stodolka scored in the sixth, and Roberts came home on a wild pitch in the seventh.

Crouch earned the victory after allowing six runs on seven hits over five innings. He walked six and struck out two. Rylan Yakopec followed with two scoreless, hitless innings, while Leo Going took the loss for Omaha.

Dean went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Meschede finished 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs, Roberts went 2-for-5 with three runs and an RBI, and Crouch collected two hits and drove in a run. Haskell went 2-for-4 with a run for Omaha, while Wilwerding was 2-for-2 with a walk.

Bennington finished with 14 runs, 10 hits and one error. Omaha recorded six runs, seven hits and six errors.
