HASTINGS — Hudson Kelley went 5-for-5 and drove in six runs as Lincoln Southwest Cornhusker Heating & Air Post 500 defeated Bennington Post 266, 14-6, in seven innings Sunday night in Game 8 of the Nebraska American Legion Class A Juniors State Tournament at Duncan Field.

Bennington took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Chase Dean drove in Tyler Meschede with a single before Quinn Roberts scored on a wild pitch.

Lincoln Southwest answered by sending 12 batters to the plate and scoring seven runs in the second. Ryker Tomlinson opened the scoring with an RBI bunt single, and Nash Noerrlinger followed with a two-run single. Chase Fusco added a sacrifice fly, Carson Lewis drove home two runs with a triple and Kelley capped the inning with an RBI single.

Bennington pulled within 7-5 in the third when Kaleb Tysor tripled home Brecken Petula and Meschede before scoring on an error. Kelley answered with a two-run single in the fourth to restore Lincoln Southwest’s four-run lead.

Kelley delivered another two-run single in the sixth, and Tomlinson followed with an RBI triple that made it 12-5. Greg Kriegler’s sacrifice fly brought Bennington within six before Lincoln Southwest added two more runs in the seventh.

Maddox Meyer went the distance to earn the victory. He allowed six runs on six hits, walked two and struck out four over seven innings. Zaxton Nelson took the loss for Bennington.

Kelley finished with five hits, six RBIs and two runs. Drew Townsend went 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs, while Tomlinson went 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, one run and two RBIs. Lewis added a triple, two walks, three runs and two RBIs.

Dean led Bennington by going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Tysor tripled, scored and drove in two runs, while Meschede reached twice and scored twice.

Lincoln Southwest finished with 14 runs, 13 hits and one error. Bennington recorded six runs, six hits and one error.
