2018 Hastings Legion Baseball Steak Dinner

2018 Hastings Legion Baseball Steak Dinner and Hall of Fame – April 20th – Doors open 5:30 pm, Dinner at 7 pm. 

The Hastings Legion Baseball Steak Dinner is held Friday, April 20 at the Adams County Fairgrounds – East End. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children 10 & under. Corporate/Family/Friends Tables (8 tickets, 8 free drink tickets) can be purchased for $225. After a great turnout in 2016 & 2017, we have upgraded our seating capacity and food order. Free Refreshments while they last. A variety of Live and Silent Auctions, an electronics raffle, split the pot and much more. Tickets can be purchased from Board Members, at any Hastings Five Points Bank Location or contact us on the Hastings Baseball page on Facebook or email theduncanfield@gmail.com.

The Hastings Baseball Committee is excited to announce this year’s inductees to the Hastings Baseball Hall of Fame. Joe Hill, Bob Fish, and Mike Simmons will be inducted into the Hastings Baseball Hall of Fame on April 20th at the Hastings Legion Baseball Steak Dinner.

Joe Hill – 1956
Joe was a four-year starter on the mound for the Hastings Juniors. He was 38-12 and part of two state championship teams and a state runner-up team. As a 14-year-old in 1953, he was 7-1 for the first Hastings state championship team. In 1956 he was 17-2 on the mound for the state champions. One of his loses was in the Sectional Finals (Winner goes to the World Series) where he went 15 innings in a 2-1 loss.

Bob Fish – 1960
Bob had a 30-4 record over two years with the Juniors. He was 15-1 for the 1960 team that made it to the American Legion World Series. He threw a one-hitter in the first round of the World Series against Miami, Fl.

Mike Simmons – 1992
As a Brave, Mike helped lead them to the 1990 State Championship with a 6-0 record. He followed that up in 1991 winning 9 games for the Chiefs. In 1992 he was 11-2 with a 2.31 ERA, 97 strikeouts in 85 innings. He also had 7 complete games and .374 Batting Average on the last Chiefs team to win the Area Tournament.

The Hastings Baseball Hall of Fame was started in 1993 and then continued in 1994 and 1995. However, for some reason unknown to the present committee, selections stopped. It was re-instituted in 2014.

Hastings Baseball is one of the few organizations in Nebraska that offers baseball for ages 5 all the way up to Legion age. Hastings Baseball is affiliated with Little League Baseball and American Legion Baseball and have over 500 youth who participate yearly.

4th Man ever to hit Home Run out of Duncan Field returns

Ray Johnson, (92) the fourth man to ever hit a Home Run out of Duncan Field, returns to throw out First Pitch 69 years later. His homerun was hit back in 1947.
